CHAIR’S REPORT

This year, Carers Tasmania has continued to be the voice of Tasmania’s carers, advocating for recognition and support of our carers, particularly in service delivery by the Tasmanian and Australian Governments. We have held countless consultations with our carers, written submissions to all levels of government, provided evidence at inquiries and hearings, and been involved in meetings, steering committees, councils, and working groups.

A significant component of our work this year was informing and advising on the Tasmanian Government’s refresh of the Tasmanian Carer Action Plan. We also toured the State, informing Tasmanian carers about the Tasmanian Carer Recognition Act 2023 and the Carers Charter, which set out the responsibilities of Tasmanian Government agencies to recognise and support Tasmanian carers.

The Board of Care2Serve welcomed Director Julian Watchorn this year, as well as Izzy Dewar who has been sharing her lived experience as a young carer in the North West of the State. The Board worked hard to implement actions from our Strategic Plan 2023-25, including drafting a First Nations Charter and a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

This year, our organisation was led by new Chief Executive Officer, Dr Samantha Fox, who worked with our professional, caring and dedicated staff to deliver for Tasmania’s 87,000 unpaid family and friend carers.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and waters upon which we work, live and sustain ourselves. This land was never ceded, and we acknowledge that the Tasmanian Aboriginal people are its continuing custodians. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
